Tell me what you think and I will tell you what you do

Tell me what you think and I will tell you what you do

What is your first thought every morning upon awakening? Most of us might not remember what our first thought of the morning was, as many of us will complain about more sleeping, the weather or any other matter, but just a few of us will be grateful for a new day. Over the years I have learned that the first thought of every morning can guide the course of our day and sometimes our life. I have also learned that when we achieve what we want or what we call our successes, it is because of our decisions and actions guided by these first early thoughts, better known as beliefs.

All the choices we make throughout our lives are guided by our beliefs, whether learned from past experience or what others have told us regarding any situation or circumstance.

So we must understand that nothing happens to us by chance, I rather call them causalities of our decisions, which guided by our beliefs that encourage each of these actions.

As mentioned earlier, our successes are the result of decisions and actions piloted by our beliefs along with other factors such as perseverance, passion and commitment, among other things. But as the successes are thanks to these, our defeats as well.

So tell me what do you think? And I’ll tell you what you do; how many times a day you think “I’m the best at my job” or even worse “why I can’t do something good?”

Sometimes these thoughts become a habit, Gandhi mentioned:

“Your beliefs become your thoughts. Your thoughts become your words. Your words become your actions. Your actions become your habits. Your habits become your values. Your values become your destiny”.

Failure is inevitable, however each of us has the resources and the ability to overcome our difficulties. We may not understand why so many things happen to us.

Have you ever been in a situation where you thought you were taking an advantage, but then some circumstances changed the whole scenario and the result turned against to you? Maybe you thought ‘why me?’ ‘ What did I do wrong?’  But the right question you must do is ‘what were you thinking as you were passing through this situation?’ We must decide which beliefs help us and identify those that harm our decisions and actions, and we have introjected, as it can change every action, every word and thought.

If in the past, things have not worked out as we expected in these situations maybe our thoughts were guided through limitations. Then we must change the way we think in an optimistic way because we have the will to choose those beliefs that are the best and right ones to guide and define our actions. Beliefs can promote or limit us. Let’s choose those that inspire us and define us as what we want to be, in order to define our actions as successes.
